We need a new Church Directory! There are many choices, but after looking at samples we decided to have members of the congregation take the photos rather than pay a professional. We will then put the information together and use a local printer to do the printing, rather than a not-as-good quality on our church copy machine.
We have scheduled two Sundays, April 17th and April 24th, to take photos after church. On April 17th, we will be having a church dinner after church so it is the perfect time to stay and have your family photo taken. If you are unable to stay after church either of those Sundays, you can contact Jean Hendrickson to try to schedule another time. If you have a current family photo you would prefer to use that would be fine also. We will also have an information form for you to fill out with the info you would like in the directory. The cost for the directory will be $17.00. We looked at many options to find the best price on ink, printing, paper and covers. At the time of filling out your form, we will ask for a commitment to purchase and we will print the number of directories confirmed for purchase. If you have any questions feel free to contact Jean Hendrickson at 218-485-8946. You may have to leave a message - she tries to spend lots of time doing outside projects :) Jean would like to thank everyone in the congregation for their help and cooperation in this project. It will be nice to have a new directory for a new minister!!

Lenten Services
Salem will be hosting Lenten meals and worship at Salem's Mahtowa Hall on February 17th, March 2nd, and March 16th. The meals will take place at 6 p.m. with the service to follow at 7. The Soul Sisters would appreciate anyone who can assist with food donation, setup at 4:30, serving, or cleanup. A sign-up board is at Salem if anyone can donate food for suppers. All other Lenten suppers and services will be held at Elim Lutheran Church. March Food Shelf Donation Drive Also remember to bring your peanut butter for the March Food Shelf donation drive! The Soul Sisters will be collecting peanut butter to donate for the Moose Lake Food Shelf on the following Sundays: March 6th, 13th, 20th and Easter the 27th. The goal is 200 pounds. They will also be passing around baskets for financial donations to be divided between Moose Lake and Cloquet Food Shelves. There is a need in our community - this is a terrific opportunity for our congregation to help meet that need!! A New Year
I usually don't celebrate the New Year with the gusto of revelers in Times Square. It always seems a bit contrived to me. I realize the New Year is an easy marker of time and that we, as humans ,need a way to mark the seasons of our life but I never felt the urge to do so while wearing oversized novelty glasses. I'm also not much on making New Year's resolutions, but this past week Pastor Thomas Anderson got me thinking, specifically about "reflecting Christ." His is apt council not only for each of us personally, but for our congregation as a whole. As we enter 2016, there will be new beginnings for our congregation. The Call Committee will begin their work in the next few weeks and I am optimistic about what that means for Salem. While it may be many months before we have a new pastor, I am confident that we will find the right person to minister to and lead Salem forward. But how does "reflecting Christ" fit into our time of transition? Back when Steph and I were searching for a church, a couple members of Salem reflected Christ to us and invited us to a Sunday service. On Sunday morning, as we listened to a slightly peculiar pastor compare Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem on a donkey to a ride into Sturgis on a Vespa, we sat quietly not knowing any of the parishioners around us. After the service, Rodney came up to Steph and me and welcomed us whole-heartedly to Salem. We knew we found our home. In the years since, I have seen this reflection of Christ on countless occasions and it is this spirit that makes Salem so special. I ask that as we move through 2016, we all try to take Pastor Anderson's words to heart and reflect Christ to the new faces among us, to prospective pastors, and most of all, to each other. Jason Marsh, Council President The transition team has completed the congregational profile, and we are now ready to officially begin the call process. The call committee has had their first meeting, and we are on our way to acquiring a new pastor!
Don't forget to attend the annual meeting on the 24th of January. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be a pot luck beforehand. |
