Sunday School Sunday school classes are held from September through May. The class meets in the Hall. The children are dismissed from worship after Holy Communion, receive their treats at Sunday School, and finish up at 11:15am. Sunday school is available for children pre-kindergarten through 6th grade. There are occasional Sundays without Sunday school, usually around major school breaks or holidays.
Worship Leadership and Participation Children are invited to participate in worship leadership by helping collect offering, serving communion, and leading music. Children are invited to be full participants in worship alongside the adults. Children often make noise and are squirmy. At Salem, we welcome children to be children and the noise and movement that is naturally who they are. There are activity bags at the back of the sanctuary with some quiet toys and crayons for children to use to help keep their attention during worship.
Children's Time During worship, after the scripture readings and before the sermon, the pastor will invite anyone who would like to come forward for a children's sermon. During this time, the youngest group in worship come forward to sit on the steps up front and talk with pastor. Usually the pastor has some sort of short story telling and questions to specifically engage the kids. We end with a prayer and the kids return to their seats. The ages of the kids who usually come forward are babies through elementary school, the occasional high schooler or adult will also come forward and join the kids accompanying a little one.
